Project 1:40 - Day 55

Ran 6 miles and finished going up 6th avenue. Took some GU when I turned the corner on India and it really seemed to help. When I got to the top of 6th avenue I was running 7:30 / mile, granted it was only 6 miles but it's good training.

6 miles - 47:03 (7:50 / mile)

1st mile - 7:52
2nd mile - 7:45
3rd mile - 7:33
4th mile - 7:36
5th mile - 8:13
6th mile - 8:04

Project 1:40 - Day 53 (August 8)

Missed putting this entry up. Saturday, Ryan and I met up and ran from Balboa out to Harbor Island and back; mirroring the last 6 miles of the race. Goal was to run an 8 to 8:20/mi pace. We ended up alternating miles, with one person setting the pace. It really broke up the run nicely and kept us me moving as well as motivated.

10.34 miles - 1:23:31 (8:04 / mile)

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/10739634

Things seem to be coming together real well. This last week I'm shooting for 6 mile runs, ending by going up 6th avenue.

Project 1:40 - Day 51

Rest day. Yesterday's workout left my legs a little bit sorer than I wanted. All good though, I figure 3 days rest before my long run with Ryan this Saturday followed by 5 milers on Monday and Wednesday should get me ready.

PM Update

So I lied. I decided to run, but keep it to a short distance. Did 3 miles around the neighborhood and made sure to hit some hills.

Project 1:40 - Day 49

Ran 6 miles today. Mapped it out so that I can finish on 6th street in downtown. I ran 6th street at an 8:30 pace which seemed better than I thought I could do.

The legs feel tight and tired, so Thursday's run might be a short 3 miler so they won't be too burned out for Saturday's run.

Project 1:40 - Day 47

Missed out on 10 miles on Friday so I decided to run 8 miles around the neighborhood. The last 2 miles were all uphill and just flat out sucked. Overall though I feel strong going into the race. Still uneasy about getting 1:40, but I feel strong.

Project 1:40 - Day 43

I am without a doubt someone of routine. I need things to be and feel a certain way when it comes to sports. Today I don't know what it was but something felt wrong. Was it the fact that I was running in board shorts instead of my running shorts? Or maybe because I was running with synthetic socks instead of my cotton socks. KC went out and got me some synthetic socks to help combat that problem. They definitely feel different, but helped a lot.

5 miles - 38:52 (7:47 / mile)

1st mile - 8:08
2nd mile - 7:35
3rd mile - 7:38
4th mile - 7:35
5th mile - 7:56

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/10419635

I have a 10 miler scheduled for Friday so we'll see how it goes.

Project 1:40 - Day 41

Too little too late? This evening I decided to go get some laps in. Last week, maybe even 2 weeks ago I measured our neighborhood pool at 16 meters. I went in last night just wanting to see if I can get anywhere from 400 to 200 meters.

200 meters - 12:02

After finishing up I jumped in the jacuzzi for a good 10 minutes to get the achy muscles some rehab.

I feel like I couldn't benefited from more swimming, but at least I'm out there trying.

Project 1:40 - Day 40

Missed out on doing my long run yesterday due to work and just being tired from the morning's dawn patrol session. Today I made it a point to get 8 miles in around downtown. Felt great running again today, but I paid the price with a nasty blister on the arch of my foot. I'm probably gonna have to switch from cotton to synthetic socks. As for the run:

8 miles - 1:04:05 (8:01 / mile)

1st mile - 7:57
2nd mile - 7:58
3rd mile - 7:51
4th mile - 7:53
5th mile - 7:42
6th mile - 8:06
7th mile - 7:59
8th mile - 8:39

I didn't think I was gassy so bad at the 8 mile mark, but I guess I did. This coming week's goal is to get 10 miles in.

Project 1:40 - Day 37

Things seem to be coming together really well. The shoes seem to be really broken in, my cardio seems to be picking up and things seem to be lining up perfectly. I ran 5 miles today and everything seems to be hitting on all cylinders.

5 miles - 37:52 (7:34 / mile)

1st mile - 7:49
2nd mile - 7:33
3rd mile - 7:36
4th mile - 7:21
5th mile - 7:33

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/9554680

I'll post my garmin connect info later on tonight. I need to make sure I don't peak too early before the race. I'm 3 weeks out, so I think I could be right on schedule.

Project 1:40 - Day 35

5 miles today in some blazing heat. I definitely think running in this heat is going to be beneficial come race time. Last time I ran the AFC it was blazing hot and I must have lost 4 to 6 lbs of water weight, so running at lunch under the sun should definitely get my body and mind right for the race.

5 miles - 39:18 (7:51 / mile)

1st mile - 7:53
2nd mile - 7:41
3rd mile - 7:38
4th mile - 7:38
5th mile - 8:26

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/9461009

Not sure if I was gassing or if it was the hill at the end that killed me. I routinely checked my watch and I was pushing a good 7:40 to 7:58 pace up until I got to the hill. We'll find out when I load my data into garmin connect. Definitely feel my cardio improving, but last Saturday's run really put some work on my hamstrings so it's either tone it down or stretch better.

Project 1:40 - Day 32

Since I'm working weekends, I figured I should get my distance runs in on Saturdays. I got 8 miles in. I have to say my cardio feels good. I went into this run with the same mentality, start slow and finish strong. Since it's a longer run the goal was to finish with a pace anywhere between 8:30 and 8:00.

8 miles - 1:06:12 (8:17 / mile)

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/9119866

Gonna rest up until Tuesday.

Project 1:40 - Day 30

Same route today and same mentality. Start slow and pick it up towards the end. The result? Same finish time 39:27

5 miles - 39:27 (7:53 / mile)

1st mile - 8:04
2nd mile - 7:56
3rd mile - 7:45
4th mile - 7:38
5th mile - 8:03

Definitely feel good. I need to try and pick it up and do other cardio work to help. My brother and his family are coming over to hit the pool. I'll probably do a few laps tonight and upload my garmin run.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/9011963

*Evening Update*

Went to the community pool to swim. I measured out the pool with my garmin to be 0.01 mile (16 meters). If I can get my ass out to the pool I'm hoping to get 160 meters in (0.10 mile).

Project 1:40 - Day 28

Ran 5 miles today at lunch.

5 miles - 39:27 (7:54/mi)

1st mile - 8:06
2nd mile - 7:53
3rd mile - 7:55
4th mile - 7:42
5th mile - 7:52

Followed Ryan's advice and started slow, but picked up the pace. I think Thursday, I'm going to push the pace a little harder. Will post garmin connect info later tonight.

Project 1:40 - Day 23

I left my desk thinking, "6 miles...need to push myself and get 6 miles in". Then when I hit the pavement, I felt great and started thinking I can probably get 7 miles maybe even 8 miles in today. I started off great, but around the 6 mile mark maybe somewhere in the 5 mile mark I started to gas.

I got 7.55 miles in today in 59:21 (7:52 / mile).

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/8294558

Talking to Ryan he told me I need to change it up and instead of starting off strong and tappering off at the end, I need to start at an easy pace and finish strong with a faster 2nd half time. We'll see how it goes.

With work starting to get busy I mapped out a Saturday run that has about the last 4 miles of the AFC.

Project 1:40 - Day 21

Missed running this morning because Kaitlyn had kept us up. Got home w/ some some light out so I decided to go for a run. Did a 5 mile out and back.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/8108306

Cardio is slowly but surely getting to where I want it to be.

Cool down:

10 pull ups
10 weighted pull ups (36 lbs)
10 gi pull ups

50 push ups

200 sit ups

Project 1:40 - Day 18

July 3, 2009

Missed entry.

I planned on running 5 miles but my battery died at the 4.83 mile mark. Sucked.

Overall I think my cardio is improving.

Project 1:40 - Day 16

1st day to run since dislocating my toe. Took the entire week off last week to let my toe heal up. I got 4 miles in today.

4 miles - 33:02 (8:15 / mile)

1st mile - 8:08
2nd mile - 8:09
3rd mile - 8:22
4th mile - 8:23

I'm going to try and load my information tonight when I get home.

Missed entries

Well, I haven't blogged in awhile and that's because I haven't done much but train. Last Friday I dislocated my right toe (the pointer toe) training. The thing popped out and popped right back in. It's hurt to walk on and still seems swollen. I haven't attempted to even try and run this whole week in fear of messing up my toe even more, but I'm about 6 weeks out and I need to step it up. Tomorrow morning I plan on doing 3 miles to see where I'm at in terms of my toe.

Wish me luck.

Project 1:40 - Day 5

My body felt really tired today. With running and training, it's somewhat taken it's toll. Surprisingly though, I was still able to get up and get my 3 mile run in today.

3 miles - 25:32

Next week, I'm going to make it a focus to get my workouts in on Tuesday and Thursday morning. Once my body gets use to the routine, it should be full steam ahead.

Project 1:40 - Day 3

Got up this morning and saw Ryan's twitter, "Up early again and ready to DO WORK!" So I put on my running gear and ran my 3 mile route.

3 miles - 26:22.

Overall I think I'm easing into my training. If I get my garmin today or tomorrow, I'm definitely shooting for a 5 miler on Friday to see where I'm at.

Praying my garmin comes in today.
