Last night I went to the gym to train. 10 round Monday, which I think is best to keep me sharp now that my training will be about 3 days a week while I train for my Iron Man. I felt good. My knee is still bothering me a bit, but I'm doing all the right things in icing and taking ibuprofren. I found this half guard attack this morning from one of my RSS feeds and found it really interesting (a bit flashy) and something to maybe work on.
As for the Iron Man training, the first week didn't go that great. I missed some workouts, but I didn't miss all of them. The goal is to be consistent and though it's early I need to make it a routine early than late.
I'm trying to do workouts every Tuesday and Thursday morning during this 20-week Iron Man training program. Nothing too crazy. I woke up this morning and did a modified 300 Kettlebell Challenge. My goal is to mix up the weights and reps down the road.
With a 36# kettlebell:
Around the Body Pass - 10 reps each side
Good Morning - 10 reps
Windmill - 5 reps each side
Swing - 10 reps each side
Snatch - 10 reps each side
Clean and Press - 10 reps each side
Turkish Get up - 5 reps each side
Suitcase Row - 10 reps each side
Crush Push up - 10 reps
Cool Down: Situps

08.09.10 - Training
Woke up early to hit the gym. This morning it was just me, Mike and "Older" Mike. Got about 5 rounds in before having to shower up and get ready for work.
No other highlights to add, other than the fact I need to work on my escapes when my opponent has my back.
Good interview with Jordan Schultz.

- look for elbow control when working the modified clip

“Perfection is reached, not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.” -- Antoine de Saint-Exuper
Finally got out to the gym for the first time since the tournament. It felt like an eternity since last being on the mat. My head is still sore from the knee, but I just made sure to keep my head away from knees and elbows...LOL.
Clip Shoulder from closed guard
- to armbar
- to triangle
- armbar to triangle
- triangle to armbar
Good stuff since it continues on what I've been focusing in on the first 3 months this year.
From MGInAction - Leg Over Pass
- be sure to stay low to not get underhooked
- kick through
Worked on that pass during rolling and got stuck for awhile.

2.26.10 - Training
At the Stronghold (Open Mat)and got in 7 rounds.
Need to work on:
- omoplata plan b when opponent controls far leg
- torriando is the key
- seat belt control seems to be coming together, though my hands sometimes are out of place
- look to take the back from flower sweep if omoplata / triangle set up is not there.

2.13.10 - Training
Went to the gym to train and left to get stitches. LOL. Nic and I accidentally bumped heads and I received the wrong end and needed 6 stitches.
Prior to bumping heads we were drilling from the following positions:
- sidemount
- half guard
- full guard
- full guard w/ arm drag
The cut

The final product

The doctor gave me some cool toys for being such a brave patient. Looks like I get to cut out the stitches myself.

Tuesday Night Training
Adrian came by to train. We worked on his blue belt test, specifically headlock escapes and sidemount escapes. After that we rolled 6 five-minute rounds with 45 seconds rest. Capped the night off with the 5 minutes of hell:
10 gable lock pull ups (5 left / 5 right)
10 hindu push ups
10 sit outs (should be 15)
We got through all 5 minutes. This is not easier, but mentally it helps to have a partner there pushing you.
Couple things I noticed in myself. Guard game has to improve (which is a focus of mine). Specifically the OODA Loop from bottom. The aggressive style is paying dividends, especially from the top but I definitely need to create a more aggressive bottom game.
