Review and Deep Half Guard

AM Training

Reviewed Tuesday's class:

Sweep
- x-guard entry, slide in and go to foot look position w/ overhook and make sure other knee is in their knee
- grab the overhook leg and bring it accross
- pinch knees
- cup heel and sweep

Heel hook
- same entry as above
- bridge to get opponent going the other way (opposite of trapped leg) to expose foot
- foot should be trapped in pit
- gable grip (side that is trapping heel, hand should be palm down)

Inside heel
- same entry as above
- bridge and bring leg across
- foot should be trapped in pit
- gable grip (side that is trapping heel, hand should be palm down)

Knee bar
- same entry as above
- bridge and bring leg across
- trap foot in the bend of the neck and arm should be under leg*
- hip out and get outside leg in between legs

Notes:

- once I've locked in the position bridge hips to off balance opponent
- knee bar, when bridging to bring the leg across go into the knee bar by sliding leg in
- heel hooks, make sure to sit up to lock it in

Open Guard options

I've been struggling when people have been doing the standing knee through middle pass from my open guard. Here are some options Mike and Roger gave me:

Deep Half Guard

- can block the leg w/ my leg (optional)
- swing in under
- make sure head is deep underneath them
- cup top of knee (patella)
- inside arm should go underneath leg
- opponent's hands go down --> take the back
- opponent falls back --> drive up for sweep

Rani Takedown

X-Guard

Tripod (modified for when opponent is kneeling)

- attack same side
- foot in hip
- arm drag grip in other

Epiphanies for the day:

- bridging from the footlock position (x-guard) to off balance em
- knee manipulation to sweep
- cupping the top of the knee to control from deep half
